TerraTransfer application areas for monitoring measurement data

A three-minute overview of where TerraTransfer systems are deployed worldwide.

Stainless-steel gauge tube, above-ground groundwater monitoring well

Groundwater, above ground

Stainless-steel monitoring wells in a visible build-up. Aquatos mini or Web LTX in 2″ tubes, with sensor cable and suspension. Compliant with DVGW W 110 / W 111.

Groundwater, below ground

Level measurement in below-ground chambers. Logger, chamber cover, casing and desiccant are part of our delivery. Civil works (excavation, setting the chambers) are handled by the contractor; we replace existing chambers on request. Refers to DVGW W 121 (construction and development).

Rescue helicopter at sunset — symbol of flood early warning

Flood early warning

Water level and rainfall in real time, discharge at solar stations where continuous measurement is possible. Measure autonomously, transmit redundantly, alert by SMS and e-mail. Standard for the EU Floods Directive and municipal heavy-rain provision.

Drinking water & meters

Well monitoring with delivery head, reservoirs, pressure and flow in the distribution network, turbidity and free chlorine at the works or reservoir outlet per the German Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV § 14a). Pulse-counter adapter for any common water meter, MID integration via SDI-12/Modbus.

Snowy mountains, permafrost and stratification chains

Temperature chains

Up to 30 thermistor nodes on one chain, vertical stratification analysis at ±0.1 °C in lakes, reservoirs and permafrost boreholes.

Dams & flood-retention basins

Recurring mandatory measurements per DIN 19700-10/-11/-12: reservoir level, seepage level at the drainage gallery and seepage volume (pulse counter), depth-profile temperatures via measuring chains for stratification assessment, rainfall and soil moisture in the catchment. Data quality-checked and exportable as ZRXP / OGC-SOS.

Radar level sensor at a weir

Radar water-level measurement

Non-contact water-level measurement on bridges, weirs and chambers. No sensor-cable drift and no fouling at the sensor — but susceptible to ice, foam or driftwood on the water surface. Typical accuracy 2–3 mm under ideal conditions, SDI-12 integration with Aquatos.

Waterways

Auxiliary gauges and flow measurement at harbours, tidal flats and estuaries, robust against salt water, waves and ice. ADCP and MID integration via SDI-12/Modbus for cross-section discharge measurements. Multi-year service life in IP68.

Water quality & WFD

Oxygen, turbidity, pH, conductivity, nitrate — multi-parameter sondes in gauge chambers or on solar/mains-powered stations. Early warning of algal blooms via chlorophyll-a and phycocyanin fluorescence (for cyanobacteria), complemented by O₂ day-night variation and turbidity, on continuously powered set-ups.

Snow & ice, alpine headwaters

Snow depth (ultrasonic/laser) and snow water equivalent (SWE) as lead indicators for headwater runoff forecasting, ice cover from the temperature profiles of the measuring chain. Loggers down to −25 °C, with radiation shield and frost-protection concept to DWD standard.

Agriculture & irrigation

Soil-moisture profiles in the main root zone (10/30/60 cm), air temperature above the canopy and reference evapotranspiration per FAO-56 as input for irrigation and forecasting systems. Plus drainage levels in inspection shafts and frost warning for specialty crops.

Industries overview

Water boards, dams, mine-water aftercare, municipalities, agriculture, low flow, loads and research — each with the standards and regulations that public tenders hang on.

Focus: flood early warning

Water level, rainfall, discharge.

The EU Floods Directive (2007/60/EC), national water law and municipal heavy-rain concepts all require continuous gauge data. TerraTransfer delivers stations, data and alerting from a single source. Our Aquatos loggers transmit over LTE-M with NB-IoT fallback — critical when a network is congested during a flood. Optional redundant antenna paths.
